Wow - that looks great. Ok - so excuse me for being a complete dummy (I have never knitted socks), but do you need any special yarn to knit socks?
What an incredible pattern you have there - (ok really dumb question) - no laughing! - how did you get that pattern from one ball of wool? That is simply amazing.
Sorry Bugsy but DH and I couldn't help but laugh because you have asked the same question as everyone else has asked me. My neighbour said that I must have patience to put all the stripes and patterns in the socks but it was very simple.
The wool as my DH says comes "pre-programmed". It self stripes as you knit it.
The yarn is Patonyle 4 ply premium wool blend. I got it from Spotlight for $6.70 a ball. You can get it in various colour ways as well as just plain colours.

The pattern for the socks is from the "socks around the world" blogspot and is called "sock it to me plain toe-up socks for the family".
Stand & deliver. Lo & behold she who has needles knits to her heart's content.
